Near or far detectors? A case study for long-lived particle searches at electron-positron colliders

چکیده

We explore the discovery potential for long-lived particles at 250-GeV ILC. The goal is to investigate possible gains of a dedicated far detector over main ILD. For concreteness, we perform our study sub-GeV axion-like $a$ produced via $e^+e^- \to \gamma$ or Z \gamma (a\gamma)\gamma$ and decaying into pairs charged leptons. In ideal case zero background perfect detection efficiency, find that detectors placed in planned underground cavities large cuboid on ground can enhance sensitivity pseudo-scalars best moderately. On other hand, ILD itself environment search particles, due its excellent angular coverage radial thickness. with cross sections few picobarns, could probe lifetimes up 300$\,$ns, proper decay lengths 100$\,$m, 250$\,$fb$^{-1}$ data. through weak interactions, ILC reach an even higher than searches displaced vertices meson decays Belle II. Our findings apply similarly proposed electron-positron experiments high coverage, such as FCC-ee CEPC.

R-Hadron and long lived particle searches at the LHC

If long lived charged particles exist, and produced at the LHC, they may travel with velocity significantly slower than the speed of light. This unique signature was not considered during the design of the LHC experiments, ATLAS and CMS. As a result, hardware and trigger capabilities need to be evaluated. Model independent approaches for finding long lived particles with the LHC experiments are...

Searches for Long-lived Particles at the Tevatron Collider

Several searches for long-lived particles have been performed using data from pp̄ collisions from Run II at the Tevatron. In most cases, new analysis techniques have been developed to carry out each search and/or estimate the backgrounds. These searches expand the discovery potential of the CDF and D0 experiments to new physics that may have been missed by traditional search techniques. This rev...

Nuclear Track Detectors for Particle Searches

In this paper we report a search for intermediate mass magnetic monopoles and nuclearites using CR39 and Makrofol Nuclear Track Detectors (NTDs) of the SLIM large area experiment, 440 m exposed at the high altitude laboratory of Chacaltaya (Bolivia) and about 100 m at Koksil, Himalaya (Pakistan). We discuss the new chemical etching and improved analysis of the SLIM CR39 sheets. Preliminary limi...

Linear Colliders and New Particle Searches

We discuss future e+elinear colliders and new particle searches that can be done with them. In the discussion of new particle searches we examine the following topics: searches for gauge boson structure, searches for a strongly interacting Higgs sector, top quark studies, Higgs searches, supersymmetric particle searches and measurements of soft supersymmetry breaking parameters.

Alternative Positron-Target Design for Electron-Positron Colliders*

Current electron-positron linear colliders are limited in luminosity by the number of positrons which can be generated from targets presently used. This paper examines the possibility of using an alternate wire-target geometry for the production of positrons via an electron-induced electromagnetic cascade shower.
